Colour B4. Hair colour remover extra strength. The salon comes to you.
Has your hair received multiple colour applications and become dark and flat? Or if you have applied a dark brown, red or black shade (you just don’t want) then Colour B4 Extra Strength can help. Colour B4 Extra Strength hair colour remover is the safest and most effective way to remove an undesirable hair colour.
Colour B4 shrinks the artificial dye molecules in the hair, enabling you to simply wash them away. What’s more Colour B4 does not touch your natural hair pigment so you are left with the colour which lay beneath your artificial shade. Colour B4 takes you back to your lightest shade.
It will return your hair to its natural colour if the artificial hair colour applied is darker than your natural level.
How It Works
Before You Start
- Make sure your hair is dry.
- Cover everything that can stain. Tip: Create a cape by cutting a black bin liner along one side, opening it out and wrapping it around your shoulders.
- Never use metal products (combs or bowls), only plastic.
- Always wear the gloves; they’re in there for a reason.
Step 1 – Mix It Up
Remove the applicator nozzle from Part B (Remover) and pour entire contents into Part A (Activator). Shake for 30 seconds.
Step 2 – Put It On
Once mixed, apply Colour B4 (using the applicator nozzle) onto hair. Work quickly as the product strength will decrease the longer it has been mixed. Use a large-toothed plastic comb to separate sections and ensure even distribution.
Step 3 – Leave It In
Once evenly applied, leave in for 20 minutes. Do not let your hair get too cold during this period. A cold environment will produce less effective results.
Step 4 – First Rinse
Rinsing is a very important step in the process. Once the allocated leave-in time has elapsed, rinse with warm water for at least 5 minutes and up to 10 minutes if you have longer hair.
Step 5 – Buffer & Rinse Again
After the first rinse, apply Buffer (Part C). Work into lather and leave in for 1 minute to absorb. Rinse again for a minimum of 5 minutes.
Step 6 – Final Buffer & Rinse
After the second rinse, apply the Buffer again. Lather and rinse as you would with a normal shampoo. After all traces of the Buffer are removed you can towel dry your hair.
Step 7 – What Now?
So you’ve applied Colour B4, waited 20 minutes, rinsed and buffered for at least 12 minutes in total. Make sure your hair is 100% dry and check results (wet hair will look darker than dry hair). If there is still colour in your hair, you can repeat the process, but need only apply to areas that need colour correction. Don’t exceed 3 Colour B4 applications and ensure that your hair is in a suitable condition before doing so.
Testimonials
wow !
So I have tried all colours including black, red and purple but I always go back to blonde, which is my natural colour, I have been platinum blonde for some time and fancied a change so asked my hairdresser to try honey blonde but unfortunately it came out cinnamon/copper. I wasn’t sure what to do and did not want to bleach it so I decided to give this product a try. It stunk and washing the ‘molecules’ out was a lengthy process
but the result is amazing, managed to go about three tones lighter and my hair is now beautiful light honey blonde- just what I wanted. I can’t see any damage but I decided to sit with conditioner for about an hour and maybe that’s why my hair look okay. I never write reviews so apologies if it’s a bit all over the place but I love this product and would use again if I had to (hopefully not)
Inexpensive and does not harm your hair
omg!! used this product today after I dyed my hair a medium brown which turned out black i was impressed because i have a sensitive scalp and i had no problems colour i was left with was of a gingery tone i would advise to use a colour straight away i used a blonde colour and the results are fabulous I cannot recommend this product enough
Worked better than i expected
This worked a treat, ive been dying my hair for at least 10 years – i only know what colour my natural hair is because of the horrible mousy brown roots. I’ve had dark brown/reddish hair for the last 3 or 4 years at least. i bought this on Saturday -i was hoping to get the extra strength (as i presumed i must have quite a build up of colour) but they were out of stock so i bought this instead thinking it may not work. i’m happy to say that the colour has been lifted quite a lot. It has not returned to my natural colour (i didn’t think it would as i said i had a lot of red in my hair) it has instead turned a natural light red/brown which blends with my natural colour really well. i don’t know whether it would have returned to my natural colour more if i had used the extra strength – but it has definatly lightened my hair considerably without damaging it with bleach. Would def recommend. Brill!!
Why has it taken so long to discover??
I have been dying my hair since about the age of 13. I’ve always managed to go from dark brown to blonde but only by a long process of highlights which is both costly and patchy. When reading previous reviews for the product, the general consensus was that either it worked or it didn’t. The only down side to the product is the god awful smell. I gagged a few times during the application so i’d reccomend doing it in a place where you can open many windows and doors. Aside from that, it’s brilliant for anyone wishing to take a dark colour away from the hair. Please note that it doesn’t remove blonde as the bleach physically changes the colour of your hair as opposed to just depositing a new colour, of which colourb4 removes. Never again will i hesitate in dying my hair brown for the winter, for I now know it can be easily reversed.
Much better result than expected
Previous colour: bright red. After using Colour B4: strawberry blonde
I read all the reviews I could get my hands on and fully expected to come out with dry, brittle, orange hair. I used Colour B4 3 days ago and my hair is a gorgeous coppery strawberry blonde. My hair condition is no worse than before, but no better either.
My hair sits just below my shoulders and the box provided just enough mixture to cover it all. So if your hair is thicker or slightly longer than mine, I’d suggest getting 2 boxes. Altogether I guess the whole process took 1hour 20. And like I said, I’m left with slighter lighter roots – of dark blonde, then an inch or so away from the root, it blends well into strawberry blonde and then darker again to the ends. No doubt I will colour my hair again, and if it goes wrong, I will not hesitate to buy this product again.
Colour B4 is magic
OMG, what an amazing product. I could not have wished for a better result and it saved me a fortune at the salon. Please be sure to stick to the processing times as this crucial to a great end result. Thank you so much Colour B4
Excellent!
I am a natural dark blonde but have it highlighted. I stupidly used l’oreal casting creme gloss in berry red and it went really really dark! meant to last up to 28 washes. it faded to an awful coppery rusty colour no one would want to see. I used color b4 and the results were amazing!!
I would recommend to anyone.
Works great on grey hair
I was worried about using this as my hair was in bad condition. It had been dyed dark for many years, chemically straightened and highlighted, and I am also totally grey on top. I followed the instructions, especially for rinsing, as it was strongly stressed that without the long rinsing procedure the product wouldn’t work, then immediately put on a deep conditioner and left it on overnight. My hair went a lovely honey blonde colour, not at all ginger, which was nice enough to leave as it was for a week. I then dyed with natural blonde and it looks great, plus is in at least as good, if not better condition than before. Brilliant product.
Does exactly what it says it will.
I have been dying my hair for about a year, various shades of red and dark brown, but I wanted to go back to my natural colour (pale auburn with lots of grey). On reading the reviews I wasn’t sure if I should have got the Extra Strength version but I needn’t have worried.
After using the product it has gone a sort of pale gingery colour and I’m absolutely delighted! Even before rinsing for the first time, I could see it had gone quite a bit lighter. I couldn’t be more pleased, and the best thing is I still have a pack of Colour B4 left which I’m going to use next week to see if I can go even lighter.
The smell that a lot of people mention is nowhere near as bad as I was expecting. I finished using the product just over an hour ago and I can’t smell it on my hair at all now.

FAQ’s
How soon can I re-colour after using Colour B4?
Immediately, because of the Buffer step (Part C) your hair will be at a suitable PH Level and safe for re-colouring. Do not apply a conditioner to your hair after using Colour B4 or prior to colouring, as this can cause a barrier on your hair that will stop the colour from working effectively. However, if your hair does feel a little dry prior to colouring then apply the colourant onto slightly damp hair.
The ends of my hair have now gone very blonde – has colour B4 bleached my hair?I haven’t had highlights in over a year!
No, Colour B4 hasn’t bleached your hair. Even though you haven’t had highlights in over a year the evidence of them is still present. Colour B4 has simply revealed this old hair. To tone down the blonde ends, apply a semi-permanent hair colour 2 shades lighter than your natural (or re-growth) colour and apply to the blonde areas only. The result will be a soft version of your natural colour.
My blonde hair colour is not too bad, but I don’t like the tone – can I use Colour B4?
Yes. Use Colour B4 Regular but only apply 1/3 of the bottle to damp hair. Comb the product through and develop for 10 minutes (rather than the standard 20) and rinse and buffer the hair just as instructed (for regular colour removal). This method of colour B4 removal is very weak but ideal for removing unwanted tone in blonde hair.
My hair was really dry before I made my colour mistake, will using Colour B4 make it worse and can I re-colour immediately afterwards?
Colour B4 won’t necessarily make your hair colour any worse, but it won’t make it any better either. You can use Colour B4 but do not apply a permanent colour immediately afterwards. You need to rest your hair first. Instead, use a level 1 (6 wash) temporary colourant (which contains no peroxide or ammonia) and use this in your hair for 4 weeks. Give your hair frequent conditioning treatments too. If you do apply a permanent hair colour to dry, porous hair the result may well be darker and more intense than you desired and it could require another colour removal application, so always rest your hair and get that condition back.
Can I have a perm or straightening on the same day I have used Colour B4?
In theory you can (if you haven’t re-coloured afterwards). The After Treatment Buffer will leave your hair at a suitable PH to be permed or straightened without a problem. However, both perms and straightening treatments are very stressful to hair. It is advisable to wait 2 weeks before you undertake them after using Colour B4.
I used Colour B4 to remove a black hair colourant and bring back my original blonde shade but although my hair is no longer black it’s still very dark. What can I do?
Very dark colours may require more than one Colour B4 application because there is a great deal of artificial pigment that needs to be removed. The cuticle of bleached blonde or porous hair can also stain if a black colourant is laid onto it. In severe cases this staining can prove impossible to remove. Use Colour B4 Extra Strength in cases where hair colour is very dark, multiple hair colourants have been used or there is build up. Unfortunately you can only judge how much staining has occurred and how much pigment can actually be removed by conducting a maximum of 3 Colour B4 Extra Strength applications. After this, if dark staining is still present it may be necessary to grow the colour out. Bleaching can remove some stains – but seek professional expertise if you choose this option.
I followed the instructions exactly, but the brown hair colour I was trying to remove is still on the ends of my hair.
This is probably due to colour build up. When a permanent hair colour has been overlaid on the hair with multiple applications it can take longer to remove. You may want to try Colour B4 Extra Strength on the ends only (processing for the full 20 minutes). Alternatively, if the dark colour is only on the very ends it is far easier to just have the colour cut out.
I have now used Colour B4 twice and my brown hair is still the ginger colour I tried to correct in the first place – why isn’t it working?
Because that ginger colour is actually your hair colour. When brown hair is subjected to the peroxide in lightening colourants it too will lighten and reveal a great deal of warmth. Because your hair was lightened, that warm colour is actually your natural hair colour pigment. To remedy, apply a hair colourant that is the same shade as your natural colour. Because this will be darker (as your hair was previously lightened) it will cover the exposed warm pigment. Alternatively, try a semi-permanent shade the same depth as your exposed colour but with an ash tone. This may neutralise the unwanted warmth you can currently see.
I have re-coloured my hair after using Colour B4 and it has again gone to a really dark unwanted hair colour. Why has this happened? Can I correct it?
Yes, you can use Colour B4 again, but opt for Colour B4 Extra Strength. Ensure you rinse for 20 minutes (rather than the suggested 12) and DO NOT use a permanent hair colour to re-colour your hair after Colour B4. Rather use a level 1 (6 wash) temporary colourant. The buffer and rinse steps are very important when using Colour B4. If these steps are not done correctly (and for the required amount of time) the original artificial colour molecules will still be left in your hair, giving you a darker result when re-colouring. Another possibility is that your hair is either porous (which causes the hair colour to appear dark and flat) or you are selecting colours which may seem nice on the box, but in reality are too dark for your preference.
Why have semi-permanent and temporary colours been suggested so much for re-colouring after using Colour B4?
When changing a hair colour you need to be 100% certain you are happy with the shade you have selected. Many permanent colours give hard, drastic results. Continually re-colouring your hair will weaken it and eventually cause damage. Semi-permanent colours give a reasonably long lasting result but contain less of the strong chemicals found in their permanent counterparts.

AMAZING!!
I’ve been dying my hair for over 2/3 years now, always different colours and brands. However, when I dyed it black I realised it was a big mistake!
I have quite thick, just over shoulder length hair and two packets was too much; but I used all of it anyway and left it for just over an hour
I didn’t expect my real hair colour to come back after years of dying but It pretty much did! I’ve been left with my natural medium brown with golden highlights left from previous dyes that just wouldn’t budge
In addition my hair doesn’t feel damaged but feels really soft
I think it’s well worth its money!!
